Daniel Craig Donates 10k GBP to Suicide Charity

Daniel Craig has donated 10,000 GBP to Three Men Walking, a charity raising money toward suicide prevention.

Three Men Walking is founded by three fathers Andy Airey, Mike Palmer, and Tim Owen, who lost daughters to suicide. Together, the three are walking three hundred miles from Cumbria to Lynn to raise awareness and donations. The money they raise goes to Papyrus, a larger British charity organization for mental health resources.

“We found out about it yesterday morning, as Mike and Tim were travelling up to Cumbria — we were WhatsApping each other in a state of surprise. By the time they’d arrived, we’d got a note saying Daniel Craig was happy to have his name attached to it, which was just fantastic — it’s a very generous donation, but to actually have the person who’s the single most famous actor in the world at the moment being happy to help was just brilliant,” Airey said in an interview.

Daniel Craig, whose fifth and final movie as the iconic James Bond is still showing in theaters, said in an interview in September that a goal of his is to get rid of his fortune before he dies.

“Isn’t there an old adage that if you die a rich person, you’ve failed?” he told Candis Magazine.

“We want to say a heartfelt thank you to Daniel Craig for donating 10,000 GBP to Papyrus for 3 Dads Walking,” posted the charity to its Facebook page. Your incredible donation means that we can continue to save young lives.

“What an amazing way to send Tim, Andy and Mike on their way as they start their 300-mile walk tomorrow, in memory of their daughters, Emily, Sophie and Beth.”

According to the British Journal of Psychiatry, by 17 years of age, approximately 23 percent of British youth have self-harmed and 7 percent have attempted suicide. That study was done before the additional pressure of the pandemic. In 2018, 759 people under 17 took their lives, and the suicide rate among young women is at the highest rate recorded.
